Well-designed food vacuum sealer

Review Date: February 4, 2010
Reviewer: R. Wright, Deep South, USA
I've been a long-time user of food vacuum sealers. I like to buy meats on sale and freeze them for later. My last unit, a FoodSaver, cost a lot of money and worked fine for about 5 years. I replaced it with this Deni model 1940.

I couldn't be more pleased. The unit is well-designed, and made in Italy. It has features like a compartment for cord storage, and a bottom section that detaches for washing. It pulls a strong vacuum and completes the vacuum/sealing cycle quicker than the FoodSaver. Uses Deni or FoodSaver bags.

The Deni is a fraction of the price of a comparable FoodSaver. It appears well built, which I hope translates into lasting a long time.
If only it had a way to stop the vacuum process midway

For a knockoff of the more expensive food sealers, this works well in all respects but one: There's no way to stop the vacuum process midway, so as, for example, not to crush the bread. You can abort, but then you're back to square one. The more expensive brands allow you to stop the vacuum while the bread is still intact, and seal it at that intermediate level of vacuum. I'd give this 5 stars but for this drawback.

If you have ever had the problem of food expiring or becoming stale or moldy before you get a chance to eat it, then perhaps it’s time to invest in some vacuum sealers for food. Perhaps you have made a meal and would like to finish it at a later date, but have left it too long and now it’s inedible, or you would like to save some food for someone else, but by the time they get around to it, it has become moldy or stale. Vaccum sealers for food can solve this all-too-common problem by preventing food from going bad by removing the air in the container around the food. As bacteria need air to survive, they will not be able to grow on the now vacuum-packed food, thus keeping the food fresh for longer. Read the rest of this entry
